The police finally tracked down the suspects and a year later teacher Jayalal Anandagoda and an accomplice were tried for murder. How a simple, unsophisticated young girl whose determination to better herself led to a tragic friendship. She wishes to make the relationship legal by marriage,but her lover's feelings turned to hatred and he ran over her drugged, prostrate body with his car. (A later edition was entitled 'The Wilpattu Murder Case'). A fine study by Judge Alles in his excellent series of cases.

Her body was found near the police station, she had been strangled. Two trials and appeals lasted eight years, then the prisoner was finally released. Two sensational cases in one volume chosen because of the similarity in the events - The Killing of Dr Arthur Thenuwara- who was shot dead through the bedroom window of his house in Colombo in 1955 and Chandrasekera Dias - Murder or Suicide - who died in his house at Nalluruwa in 1979. In both cases suspicion fell on their spouses. Both were said to have had violent love affairs and made use of their lovers to dispose of their husbands.

Judge Alles also includes a chapter on murder by insulin and discusses the cases of Claus von Bulow and Kenneth Barlow. A very nice copy.
