VG in very sl. rubbed and marked maroon cloth with bright gilt titles and very clean internally. The story of the attempted murder of W.W. Smith, Agent of the Canadian Pacific Railroad Company at Sutton Junction and President of the Brome County Branch of the Dominion Alliance, one of the leading temperance organisations of Canada. The history and background to the case when those in favour of liquor sought to repeal the Scott Act, a Temperance Law which had been in force for eight years. On July 7th, 1894, Mr Smith was attacked in the station waiting room but managed to put up a fight and the assailant fled. The investigation was handled by S.H. Carpenter, Superintendent of the Canadian Secret Service and he eventually arrested those responsible who had paid to have Smith removed. Price:
