In June 1970 in Pukekawa, south of Auckland, the couple's 18-month-old daughter was found alone and possibly unfed for five days. There were bloodstains in the house, but no bodies. Some weeks later they were found in the Waikato river. Arthur Allan Thomas was charged and convicted for the murders, but much of the evidence was circumstantial and people felt uneasy from the start. The author analysed the evidence and interviewed those involved. He presents a fresh picture of the controversial case that raises the question as to whether the verdict was beyond reasonable doubt.
