Original black pebbled cloth covers have at some earlier time been re-backed and are now worn through along the bottom edge, but only minor wear to other extremes. The title is in gilt on the front cover and blind-stamped on the rear. There is the lightest of foxing but still a very good copy of this rare Civil War book giving horrifying accounts of conditions in which the prisoners were kept. Contains a listing of names of those who gave evidence from the various establishments, officers, privates, surgeons and others from Fort Delaware, David's Island, Lincoln Hospital etc. The Supplement at the rear of the volume covers an account of the sufferings at Fort Sumter, Andersonville, Georgia; Map of the Stockade Prison at Andersonville; Memorial of Union Prisoners confined to the notorious prison.
