He was bound, gagged, blindfolded, stabbed more than fifty times, and robbed of several thousand dollars. Eventually Ernest and Alexis Blanc were arrested - two polite, educated and popular teenagers who had worked on a local plantation. It resulted in one of the most electrifying trials in the history of the American South. The author vividly describes the events as well as the background to Acadian history from the 1604 establishment of a French colony, to the ruthless expulsion of Acadians from Nova Scotia during the French and Indian Wars.
