xv+159pp, illus. in text. In 1862 a young carpenter from Syracuse, New York, William Eugene Ruggles, added a couple of years to his age and enlisted as a private soldier in the Union army. He became part of the 122nd Regiment, a unit of Sedgwick's famous 6th corps, participating in virtually every major battle in the Virginia theatre. An account of the campaigns and battles which the regiment fought - from its mustering in 1862 to its ultimate discharge. On return to Syracuse Ruggles collaborated with a local engraver to create a remarkable series of drawings of his regiment in action. Includes Notes and Index.
