1 JONES, John B., condensed, annotated and edited by Earl Schenck Miers. Complete in One Volume. A REBEL WAR CLERK'S DIARY.
New York Sagamore Press 1958 1st edition thus. hardcover VG GOOD just a little chipped at edges
xiv+545pp. Small address label inside cover and small tape mark to front endpaper but o/w internally very clean. John B. Jones, a native of Baltimore, chose the secessionist side in the war between the states and kept a painstaking diary of life behind the Confederate lines. The Diary was originally issued in two volumes but the Editor has retained the vital day-to-day record of what the war looked like to those on the losing side. He has also added a comment on the true state of affairs at the front, sometimes presenting a heart-breaking contrast by what really lay in the offing and what the Southerners were trying hard to believe. No other record exists that offers such a minutely detailed picture of the way people lived, thought and prayed in the capital of the Confederacy. Includes Index.
