1 JONES, Reginald B PALMER THE RUGELEY POISONER. Full and Authentic Account
Manchester Daisy Bank First Edition Illustrated Paper Wrappers VG
32pp. Not dated but c1912. A very nice copy of this rare Daisy Bank publication. Pages lightly tanned. Dr William Palmer, poisoner, forger and robber, who cast a slur on th fair name of Rugeley, which can never be effaced whilst memory endures. Mr John Parsons Cook, the young man whom Palmer was charged with poisoning, had been articled as a solicitor but had inherited some 12,000 and not followed his profession. The two men became acquainted in the pursuit of horse racing and suspicion over Cook's death led to Palmer's arrest. The case brought about the Palmer Act whereby a case may be heard in London when there is substantial local hostility to the accused. Found guilty, it is thought that Palmer may well have poisoned up to fourteen victims. Most unusual to find these ephemeral publications in such good condition.
