1 BEBBINGTON, W ROGUES GO RACING.
London Good & Betts c1950 1st hardcover VG
189pp+frontis. VG in red cloth. Not dated but probably c1950. In his Introduction Mr Geoffrey Gilbey states that the author was the man who had done the most for racing between the wars, despite the fact that his name was not well-known. Born in Manchester and serving nearly 25 years in the services, in April 1920 Mr Bebbington secured an appointment with the Royal Calcutta Turf Club as Assistant to the Clerk of the Course. In due course he became Senior Jockey Club Supervisor of Racecourse Detective Personnel and this book is the story of that career. Stories of blackmailers, cardsharpers, confidence tricksters, Tic-Tac men, doping, the Jockeys, the Bookmakers, frauds, Ascot, Windsor & Headquarters, Chaotic Gaming laws, etc.
