1 PARTRIDGE, Bellamy THE AINSLEY CASE. Taken from the Records of the Well-Known Country Lawyer of Upstate New York
New York Random House 1955 First Edition Hardcover VG good
ix+307pp. Dust-jacket a little scuffed but still complete. Inscription to endpaper. In 1885 the sleepy town of Phelps in Ontario County, New York, was shattered by the robbery and murder of a well-to-do local man, Martin Ainsley. His young, blonde, beautiful wife, Zelda, had run off with their farm-hand around the time of the killing, but soon she was in lawyer Partridge's home trying to establish her innocence. Normally he avoided criminal actions, but suddenly found himself with a sensational murder case on his hands. The lawyer's son vividly recalls the notorious case, the plots and counter-plots, local gossip and scandal, all based on files which he found in the law office he shared with his father.
