SNELL, Mr G. Blagrave - from Shorthand NotesTHE GREAT FORGERIES OF WILLIAM ROUPELL - Late M.P. For Lambeth. Official Report of the Trial at Guildford in the Case of Roupell v. This copy has card covers with a copy of the title page laid on, the frontispiece is a facsimile. Little browning to title page and few page corners, not affecting test, dusty on rear e/p but o/w pages clean. A newspaper cutting is affixed reporting Roupell's death and recalling the events of his life and trial. There is a note on the endpaper by a former owner making comment about the time he saw Roupell at Chelmsford in the charge of two warders. The case was a major cause celebre and scandal of the mid-nineteenth century. Roupell, the M.P. for Lambeth, had sold a large estate near Kingston to a Mr Waite. Roupell's brother, Richard, claimed that William possessed no legal rights to the property and that the transfer to Mr Waite was a forgery. The Roupells had the same father but William was his illegitimate son. Price:
