These produced a class of wealthy clothiers which was joined by well-to-do shopkeepers who found their customers in both the town and the hinterland. The less wealthy, especially the really poor, remain obscure but Professor Willan shows the physical setting of the homes where men of all classes lived and their ideas about disposal of their possessions at death.
