32pp. Illus. in text. Blue card covers are faded and a little chipped, but pages are very crisp and clean. The collection was shown during November and December, 1928. The booklet was printed for the first display in the Public Library of the City of Boston. The highlights of the collection cover such entries as James Catnach, Chap Books, French Juveniles, Fairy Tales, German Juveniles, Charles and Mary Lamb, Miniature Books, John Newbery, Rusher of Banbury, Street Cries, Toy Theatre Plays,Samuel Wood etc.

A very well illustrated edition including photographs of Committee Members, Women's Guild, Solicitors, the various stores opening from 1874 - 1902, special events for staff on Coronation Day, office staff etc. A very good social history.

His wonderful collection of Art is one of the major attractions of the town with its unique collection of art work by Remington and Russell.

144pp. Green cloth with gilt and black decoration to cover, just a little wear to extremes. A few spots of foxing to pages, and endpapers little tanned and marked, but all text legible and generally clean internally. Bookplate inside front cover. An interesting little edition containing essays advocating the benefits of Temperance. The Introduction states that the sketches of some of the darker scenes of London Drinking contained in this book have all been drawn from the life. The writer was obliged to visit all parts of the city, mainly after dark, in order to observe the dreadful nature of the events caused in connection with the abuse of alcohol, although he assures the reader that he had an unbiased mind and was not a member of any teetotal society. PLEASE NOTE: this is the Original Edition and not a modern reprint.

Using first person accounts from his family and neighbours, newspaper reports and diaries, he reconstructs a blow-by-blow account of the terrible events, attempts to explain how it began and how it changed his life by making him aware of weather patterns.
