Edinburgh Mainstream Pub. 2005 1845960114 / 9781845960117 First Edition Trade Paperback Fine 8vo
192pp+illus. Was Jack the Ripper put on trial for murder in Dundee in March 1889? A shocking and brutal murder had taken place in the city in February of that year and the words 'Jack the Ripper is at the back of this door' were found written in chalk at the scene of the crime. When he was arrested William Bury admitted that he was afraid he would be considered as Jack the Ripper. Born and brought up in the Midlands, Bury and his wife had moved to the East End of London in autumn 1887 and in January 1889, moved to Dundee. The author presents evidence that the law did in fact catch up with the Ripper.
