The investigation into the most suitable place for a harbour to be constructed by convicts, with opinions on such sites as Aberdeen, Peterhead, Arbroath, Stonehaven, Fraserburgh etc. Includes some excellent maps of the proposed harbours, eleven hand-coloures plans of the areas and one large folding plan of the Scottish coast showing strandings of vessels between Fife Ness and Dunnet Head, as well as the Orkney and Shetland Islands from 1871 to 1883. Appendices detail the ships, place of origin, cargo, description of casualty, result of events etc. The Government Report was presented to Parliament in 1884 and although pages are browned, the maps are in very good, crisp condition.
