Seventeen years later and after fifteen journeys ranging from Oregon to Texas he published 'The Virginian' - the book which gave readers their first glimpse of the cowpuncher as an honest, gallant hero. His fear that the West he so loved was rapidly disappearing, led him to record the happenings of the rugged frontier. The private journals he kept were discovered by his daughter in 1938 and the incredible stories were published here for the first time, along with a selection of letters to his mother. Includes a Wister Bibliography and Index.
