329pp+illus. Pale blue blind decorated boards faded, sl. worn and sunned. Endpapers browned, scattered foxing throughout but still GOOD copy. A scarce biography of Quebec born 'Henrietta Robinson' - the Veiled Murderess. Coming from a wealthy Canadian family who moved in the best circles of society, Henrietta often told prison visitors of her genealogy, tracing her lineage through the aristocratic blood of England, to the house of Hanover. She fell in love with an 'unsuitable' young man but she married a respectable Englishman stationed in Quebec. When the marriage ended she returned to Canada where her behaviour became more and more hysterical, even waving a gun around in public. In 1853 she poisoned a local grocer and his young relative. She was taken to Sing Sing and then after her death sentence was commuted, was placed in the asylum at Auburn.
