Podola had burgled the London flat of Mrs Verne Schiffmann and stolen jewellery and furs worth £2,000. When he tried to blackmail her, she contacted the police and a later call from Podola was traced to a call box. Two policemen arrived but while one went for a patrol car, Podola shot the other officer. He claimed he was beaten up by the police and he claimed loss of memory, but he was tried and convicted at the Old Bailey. A full documentary based on the official transcript.
