Miranda's diary provides an instructive and highly suggestive description of the new nation during its natal period, for the years 1783-4 formed the closing months of an old era and the opening of a new one. Apart from its entertaining qualities, the diary fills an important gap in the firsthand knowledge of the times. The original text of the diary was read by Judson P. Wood whilst he was at Harvard and he later decided to translate the work to make it more widely available. Index.
