Stillman lived through an exciting time in the history of the city of Sacramento, including the catastrophic flood as well as particularly violent squatter rioting. Dr Stillman's letters were first published by A. Roman of San Francisco in 1877, as part of his book "Seeking the Golden Fleece" and they provide a fine first-hand account of the time. A very attractive edition. Well illustrated with maps inside covers.
