On the morning of July 5th, 1982, Al and Rosemary Podgis were shot dead in their rundown suburban home in Loch Arbour, New Jersey. Their bodies were found in a ravine across the state border in Pennsylvania. Five days later police arrested teenages Scott Franz, Rosemary's son from a previous marriage and his friend Bruce Curtis, a high school friend visiting from Nova Scotia. Scott claimed he had shot his violent stepfather in self-defence; Bruce said his gun had discharged accidentally, killing Rosemary, as he tried to flee the scene.
